membership benefits
1. The Bag (Jobs & Money)
Direct Access: Companies like Gulfstream, Lockheed, and Google pay money to come to NSBE conferences specifically to hire us. You skip the resume pile.
Scholarships: There are thousands of dollars in scholarships that only NSBE members can apply for. Many don't require a 4.0 GPA.
APEX: You get access to the NSBE job board where recruiters hunt for interns year-round.
2. The Survival Kit (Grades)
The Plug: Upperclassmen in the chapter have already taken the classes you are struggling with. They know which professors to avoid and how to study for the exams.
Study Groups: We host study halls so you aren't trying to figure out Calculus or Statics by yourself at 2 AM.
3. The Experience (Travel & Vibe)
Conventions: The Regional and National conventions are legendary. You get to travel to major cities (like Atlanta, Chicago, Vegas) with the crew. It’s half professional networking, half massive reunion/party.
The Fam: SSU is a family, but NSBE is a smaller, tighter circle within that. If you need a ride, a recommendation, or just to vent about a professor, we got you.
4. The Resume Flex (Leadership)
Leadership Roles: You can run for Freshman Rep or E-Board. Putting "NSBE Treasurer" on your resume looks 10x better than just "Member." It shows companies you know how to lead.
The Bottom Line: "You're already paying tuition. Joining NSBE is how you make sure that investment actually pays off with a job when you walk across the stage."
SSU NsbE members awards
1. National Corporate Scholarships
SSU NSBE members have successfully competed against students from major engineering schools (like Georgia Tech and MIT) to win prestigious corporate scholarships.
Kellogg Corporate Citizenship Fund Scholars: In the 2007–2008 academic year, SSU NSBE members were selected as scholars for this prestigious national fund. This is a major highlight in the chapter's history, recognizing academic excellence and community service.
Fulfilling the Legacy Scholarships: Members frequently secure NSBE-specific scholarships funded by the Board of Corporate Affiliates (BCA), which includes companies like Boeing, Chevron, and Northrop Grumman.
2. Regional Recognition (Region III)
SSU is part of NSBE Region III (Southeastern US), which is known as one of the most competitive regions in the society.
Chapter Performance: The chapter has historically been recognized for high retention rates and member participation relative to the size of the engineering program.
Conference Competitions: SSU members have represented the university in regional competitions, including the Technical Research Exhibition (TRE) and the Academic Tech Bowl.
3. Academic Honors (University Level)
NSBE members at SSU are statistically among the highest-performing students in the College of Sciences and Technology.
Dean’s List & President’s List: A significant percentage of the active NSBE body consistently lands on the SSU Dean’s List (3.5+ GPA) and President’s List (4.0 GPA).
Departmental Awards: NSBE officers often double as recipients of the "Outstanding Student in Engineering Technology" awards given by the university annually.
4. Employment Awards
While not a plaque, the ultimate "award" for an NSBE member is the job offer. SSU NSBE members have secured:
Gulfstream Co-ops/Internships: Due to the strong local partnership, NSBE members are frequently selected for coveted rotation programs at Gulfstream Aerospace.
Research Fellowships: Members have been awarded research stipends to work in SSU’s labs on projects ranging from civil engineering infrastructure to electronics.
How to phrase this for a student: "Our members don't just pass classes. We produce Kellogg Scholars, we dominate the Dean's List, and we secure scholarships from Fortune 500 companies that pay for your tuition so you don't have to."
