The Savannah State University Chapter of the National Society of Black Engineers (NSBE) stands as the premier professional development organization for STEM students at the oldest public HBCU in Georgia.
Rooted in the university’s legacy of technical excellence—dating back to SSU becoming the first HBCU in the state to receive ABET accreditation for Engineering Technology—the chapter is dedicated to the national mission: increasing the number of culturally responsible Black engineers who excel academically, succeed professionally, and positively impact the community.
Located in Region III, the SSU chapter serves as a vital pipeline between classroom theory and industry application. Through partnerships with local giants like Gulfstream Aerospace and the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, the chapter provides members with exclusive access to internships, co-ops, and scholarships. Beyond career advancement, SSU NSBE fosters a "family-first" academic culture, utilizing study groups and peer mentorship to ensure retention and graduation.
Committed to "lifting as we climb," the chapter maintains a strong presence in the Savannah community through its Pre-College Initiative (PCI), where members mentor local K-12 students to inspire the next generation of Tiger engineers.
